Katharina:
- With time, our will synchronizes and aligns with God’s will. Our desires are the desires that God’s desires are for us. This is when we have a pure heart.
- Hand in over to God. With the prayer, “God remove whatever is not meant for me. Remove the desires that are not of You.” He can remove even what you are obsessed about or what’s not your will to you.
- Look at where you are living in separation to God, look at where you might be walking against His will, participating in spill, keeping you from being in close intimate relationship with Him. When you live according to your will only, you don’t have peace.
- As you walk a path of obedience, our heart will harmonize with God’s will. Ask for God to purify your heart. He does place meaningful desires on our heart, like relationship, marriage, children, purpose. These have meaning to the Lord. He would have us want it if He didn’t have the power to fulfill it in our lives. And often it requires participation.
- Our thoughts and desires, do they line up with Scripture? Once you have it, does it support you in serving Him even better? Even when you have a desire, still give authority to God of when it will happen.
Martine:
- From our “conversion” to Christ (deciding to follow Him), our will, character, and desires will grow too look a lot more like God’s will, character, and desires the longer and the deeper with Christ we go, and the more we commit and re-commit to holiness.
- The Holy Spirit is what points out to you what’s from the flesh (that which seeks self-gratification and immediate gratification) versus that of God. If we take the easy and most available path versus the path of obedience to God, we often become “more flesh”, because His path often times requires patience for “holiness”.
- A lot of the walk with God is about putting our eyes on God’s character. Look to His character more than to put your awareness on what you’re not to think about. What you attend to you become more alike, that’s just how psychology works. Look to God to become more God-man You’ll never become God, but you can become more “God-man”.
- Philippines 2:13: “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” He does work in you to fulfill His purpose for you. Trust that the work He is doing on your desires actually are to bring about the purpose He has for you.
- Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” So, all God cares about is that you light in Him. Bring your attention away from your desires and rather put your attention onto God (who already knows your heart and your desires) and He shall bring them to pass in the way that He sees fit for the plan He has for you to reveal His glory through you.
